500 North Michigan Avenue sits in the heart of Chicago's busy business district. This 23-story building consists of 1144 openings that needed to be re-glazed. They also needed a custom-designed gasket to replace the existing 20-year-old PVC gasket.
Service Glass Company turned to Tremco’s design engineering team in Ashland, Ohio for its expertise and custom design services. Previous Tremco Design Engineer Peter Poirier (now works as the Technical Director for Tremco's Building Enclosure Group) recommended changing to an EPDM gasket and increasing the thickness of the bulb. On the exterior side of the window system, POLYshim II Tape was used followed by a Spectrem 2 cap bead application to complete the system. This combination of products from Tremco enabled a single-source warranty for the restoration.
